Ofuda is a symbol of the enshrined kami. As well as at jinja, the Japanese have worshiped kami at home by enshrining ofuda, a symbol of kami, at a household altar known as kamidana. There are many jinja in Japan, and each jinia has its own especially prepared ofuda.

Omikuji which we can see in jinja nowadays is used for telling a person's fortune. There are various types of omikuji. While some give advice on daily life, some tell fortune by indicating such as Da'i-kichi, Kichi, Chu-kichi, Sho-kichi, Su'e-kichi, and Kyo.
