Reisai is the annual ‘major festival' (taisai) of a jinja which is held on a day related either to the enshrined kami (shinto deity) or the origin of the jinja.
Okuni Jinja holds the reisai on April 18, and on the Saturday and Sunday closest to the 18th (April 20 and 21 in 2024), the Jūnidanbugaku (十二段舞楽) is performed with sincerity to Ōnamuchi-no-kami.
Reisai is the most important and solemn ritual and festival, but also the most lively day for Okuni Jinja.
It is held to pray for the peace of the region and the country, and the prosperity of the people.
